Madison Board of Supervisors Votes No to Rezoning for Criglersville School Property

Updated: Nov 11, 2022

Fierce Community Opposition Illuminates Major Issues with Rezoning and Development.

After several months of passionate community action, the residents of Madison County and the Town of Criglersville had their voices heard and won a 4-1 votes against a rezoning of the Criglersville Elementary School Property from A-1 Agricultural to M-1 Industrial.

Industrial spot zoning is bad for Criglersville and bad for Madison County. The County needs to adhere to its Comprehensive plan in a way that preserves and protects the County's agricultural heritage.

In his comments in the November 8th Board of Supervisors (BOS) meeting, Supervisor Jewett agreed that if the County can arbitrarily rezone a residential area as industrial and thereby circumventing their own zoning rules, then they would be defeating any future attempts to limit zoning applications to the current zoning ordinances.
